Bilateral Peering

Bilateral peering refers to the direct and private peer between your AS and another members’s AS network on the Internet exchange. By engaging in bilateral peering, you establish a one-to-one peering with specific AS network of your choice. In most case, you need to negotiate with peering manager to set-up BGP peer. You can check bilateral peering member who has selected peering policy through Peering DB (JKT-IX) .

Benefits of Bilateral Peering at an IX:
Enhanced Control: Bilateral peering provides you with greater control over the traffic exchanged with the interconnected network. It allows you to optimize routing paths and prioritize critical data, improving the overall user experience.

Multi-lateral Peering (Route Server Peering)

(Most common peering way in Indonesia) Multi-lateral peering refers to the practice of peering with multiple AS network through route servers on the Internet Exchange. This form of peering enables you to exchange internet traffic with the multiple AS network with single peering with the route servers. Some members may not accept route server peering, so you need to establish Bilateral Peering with them privately.

Benefits of Multi-lateral Peering at an IX:
Easy to establish to all: Multi-lateral peering is easy to establish. You only need to establish a single peering with the route server to exchange traffic with multiple AS networks.
